Questions and answers: gulets

We asked Simply Turkey what are the most frequently-asked questions by clients thinking about booking a gulet holiday. Here’s what the company told us.

What is a gulet? A gulet is a traditionally built wooden sailing vessel originally used to transport goods around the coast, which has been adapted for holiday cruising. The boats are comfortable to live on, being wide and high in the water, and the flat bottom means they can sail close to the coast.

Do you have to go for a full week? Clients who are not sure if gulet cruising is the right option for them can opt for a three-day mini-cruise which is combined with a land-based holiday. Day cruises are also pre-bookable in the resorts.

Do you need to lend a hand on board? All our gulets are fully crewed. Each gulet has up to four crew members depending on its size. A chef will prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Is it suitable for families? Gulets make an excellent family holiday and there are plenty of opportunities to swim and snorkel. However, younger children will need to be closely supervised by their parents.

What should we pack? All cabins are en suite and there is a choice of dining indoors or out. Life on board is casual with no need for big suitcases and lots of clothes. Hair dryers can be used in port but not on the water.
