Business Tourism Partnership bids to lower hotel taxation

THEBUSINESS Tourism Partnership is calling on the Government for tax incentives and lower VAT on hotel accommodation to stimulate investment in conference and exhibition facilities in the UK.

The Business Tourism Partnership was formed earlier this year in response to a new government strategy, called Tomorrow’s Tourism, aimed at ensuring Britain is competitive in the international market.

It is made up of 15 trade associations and government bodies and reports to the Department of Culture, Media and Sport.

Partnership chairman Michael Hirst said a reduction on VAT will put Britain into line with European counterparts.

He said:”The Government urged the business tourism industry to adopt a powerful, national and unified voice.

“We are calling on the Chancellor to create an environment that will let business tourism add to its £12bn annual contribution to the UK economy.”
