THE first major consumer publicity campaign to promote visits to the Millennium Dome starts this week and travel agents are expected to reap the benefit.
The Dome’s travel trade manager Mark Hayes said the campaign should encourage bookings of Millennium Dome packages featured by a number of short-break operators inclu-ding London Travel Service, Rainbow, Crystal, Superbreak, Forte and Highlife Breaks.
Typical packages include hotel accommodation, riverboat transfers from central London and Dome entry tickets.
“Travel agents have the product on their shelves, but we have to push people into travel agencies with a heavyweight campaign,” said Hayes.
The campaign is timed to publicise the attraction in the two weeks up to September 22, when admission tickets first go on sale to the public. Tickets, which cost £20 for adults, will be on sale at National Lottery outlets and also available from the Dome’s main call centre.
Operators have already started their own promotions of Millennium Dome breaks. Crystal has completed a poster campaign with Lunn Poly outlets promoting packages leading in at £55 per person.
