Kuoni puts focus on Tanzania to boost East African market

A standalone Tanzania brochure has been launched by Kuoni to build on the operator’s latest direct-charter flight to Kilimanjaro.

The exclusive 226-seat Monarch flight will depart Gatwick every Wednesday from January 11. Kuoni said it will help fuel growth to the East African country by taking several hours off the journey time.

“Tanzania is a country that has much to offer but is relatively undiscovered,” said product manager Ellis Jones. “The problem was that people had to fly to Nairobi and overland up to Tanzania which takes ages.”

The programme, which has a target of 10,000 passengers, includes several safari options designed to appeal to both experienced and first-time visitors to Africa.

Single-centre Select safaris, featured in Arusha, Serengeti and Tarangire, are targeted at families and the elderly who do not want to travel long distances. Two-centre options are available in Ngorongoro, Tarangire and Serengeti.

A range of walking itineraries is featured, including the ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro, whose summit is just short of 20,000ft. Two routes are featured – the Marangu trail and the tougher Machame route which takes five days and is only for experienced trekkers.

Twin-centre options are also featured in the brochure with seven nights in Tanzania and seven nights in Mombasa, while the spice island of Zanzibar can be added to a selection of safaris. Equatorial Bird Life can be viewed in Arusha, Lake Manyara and Tarangire. Prices lead-in at £599 for seven nights in Arusha half-board.

The operator is certain to add products if sales go well. “We have barely touched the surface of what is available,” said Jones.
