Greek tourism minister vows to target ‘areas of concern’ for UK

The Greek tourism minister has pledged to target “areas of concern” for the UK government to avoid further restrictions being imposed on tourists returning from the country.

Harry Theoharis said the different restrictions imposed by different parts of the UK had been a “mixed bag” for the Greek tourism industry.

Scotland imposed a 14-day self-isolation on arrivals from Greece on Tuesday – which the UK transport has since said amounted to “jumping the gun”.

Wales has implemented quarantine restrictions on those returning from seven Greek islands.

There are no restrictions on holidaymakers returning from Greece to England or Northern Ireland.

Speaking to the BBC, Theoharis said: “According to the rules that the UK has set of 20 cases [per 100,000 people] in the last seven days – we’re well below that and moving in the right direction. It’s not our place to tell them [UK governments] what they should be doing.

“We have a policy of full transparency and sharing the data we have on our testing and service in each and every region and destination so you can make an informed decision.

“When we see areas of concern from UK authorities we will target these areas to ensure these fears are well addressed.”
