Lufthansa is offering passengers the chance to offset the CO2 emissions of their flights via an app.
The German airline’s ‘minfulflyer’ option is designed to make the process of carbon offsetting easier for customers.
Frequent flyers can use their Miles & More miles towards the offset contribution, and will be given ‘awards’ if they do.
Lufthansa said the function reminds customers to compensate flights regularly and gives them the opportunity to decide how much Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) or certified reforestation projects are used.
Lufthansa has also integrated its carbon offsetting platform Compensaid into the Miles & More app.
Lufthansa Group executive board member for customer, IT and corporate responsibility, Christina Foerster, said: “The CO2 compensation of a flight should not be complicated. With the new ‘mindfulflyer’ service, our passengers can see the CO2 emissions of their flight at a glance and can now offset them easily and quickly, even using miles. We want to actively promote sustainable behaviour.”
“Customer loyalty without sustainability no longer works – our customers expect solutions from us that enable climate-friendly travel,” added Sebastian Riedle, managing director of Miles & More. “With the integration of the ‘mindfulflyer’ offer we are fulfilling this expectation while making climate neutral travel as simple as possible.”
