Tui Travel has apologised after asking clients travelling to an apartment in Rhodes for an extra €199 for air conditioning – although the brochure indicated that the facility was included.
Paul Cusack, owner of Cockermouth Travel, who has two sets of clients booked to stay at the Lindia Thalassa Studios and Apartments in Rhodes this summer, received the letter from Tui this week. He contacted his consortium, Advantage Travel Centres, which looked into the dispute.
The letter said: “As detailed in brochures and on our website, one of the facilities you can choose to take advantage of… is air conditioning in your room. Air conditioning is available at an additional charge.”
However, Tui’s brochure lists air conditioning as one of the facilities included in the price of a room.
When contacted by Travel Weekly, Tui-owned Thomson Holidays admitted there had been a misprint in the brochure and pledged to pay the charge for clients.
A spokeswoman said: “We would like to apologise to agents and customers for the misprint in the brochure regarding air-conditioning charges.
“We would like to reassure all customers and agents that all future issues of the brochure, including the Lindia Thalassa Apartments, will include these costs [as an extra]. Our website and booking systems have also been updated.
“As way of an apology, we would like to cover the costs of the air-conditioning services during this customer’s holiday.” The spokeswoman said the offer extended to other existing bookings.
