SunExpress to start Gatwick-Turkey service in March

SunExpress is further expanding its UK operations with the launch of a route between Gatwick and Antalya in Turkey from March 2021.

The announcement comes two days after the carrier revealed it will operate a new Manchester-Antalya holiday route from March 26.

Founded as a joint venture between Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines in 1989, the carrier has operated for several years from Luton, mainly catering for the VFR (visiting friends and relatives) market to Turkey.

The new Gatwick-Antalya service starts on March 28, initially for three days a week then daily from May 28.

Peter Glade, chief commercial officer of SunExpress, said: “Our new services to Antalya will allow the British people to arrive at their well-deserved holiday destination, in a fast and relaxed manner, and for a competitive price, experiencing our unique SunExpress service.”

Stephen King, Gatwick’s head of airline relations, added: “Antalya has been an increasingly popular destination in recent years, with an average temperature of more than 20 degrees between May and October making it a great Mediterranean getaway.

“Despite the turbulent time the aviation industry has suffered this year, slots at Gatwick remain in high demand, so it is positive news to be able to welcome SunExpress to the airport.”
