Operator woos retailers with prize holidays


SUPERBREAK is offering agents incentives to attend training sessions amid concerns that not enough retailers are learning about the product.



Under the operator’s new initiative – Be Gaining While You’re Training – every agent undertaking a 30min training session, either internal or external, will be entered into a prize draw with a UK weekend break up for grabs.



In addition, a draw will be held for agents returning a successfully completed product quiz. Sales director Ian Mounser said the carrot approach was designed to encourage greater participation from agents.



“It’s tough getting agents to attend training session, especially if agency staff have to leave the office,” he said. “Independent agents in particular don’t have spare staff swimming around.



“Training is quite a commitment which is why an organisation like the Truly Independent Professional Travel Organisation was formed. Getting several operators in the same room for product training makes it more viable to attend.”



Mounser said the high turnover of counter staff also makes training crucial.



“Many new staff are youngsters who don’t relate to our sector so it’s important we get the message across,” he added.



“I have always said that the best and most important job of the field sales team is training.”



The monthly draws will initially run for six months although Mounser said it is likely to be extended indefinitely. Winners will be announced on viewdata.



He predicted training will be more important this year as the UK market enjoys a good year.



“January and February showed a 22% growth over the same two months last year,” he said.



“The prospects for the year look very positive.”
