Snow disrupts flights at Luton and Stansted

Snow shut runways at Luton airport and Stansted early this morning.

EasyJet had warned that both airports would be closed until 9am this morning due to snow and freezing conditions.

However, Luton reopened shortly after 8am after the runway was cleared although delays and cancellations were still expected.

An airport spokesman said: “Adverse weather is affecting operations at London Luton Airport and could cause delayed or cancelled flights

“Passengers and those coming to the airport to meet friends and relatives are advised to check the status of the flight with the airline before travelling.”

EasyJet said in a statement: “We are taking proactive measures to minimise the disruption; however would like to warn passengers in advance that there is the potential for disruption,” the airline said.

“We strongly advise that customers allow extra time for their journeys to the airport, check the status of [their] flight before leaving and closely monitor local weather forecasts.”
