Thomas Cook store robbed by armed men

Kent Police is investigating a robbery at Thomas Cook travel agents in High Street, Hythe this morning (Friday, December 14).

Two men are reported to have gone into the agency at about 11.40am and demanded money, threatening the members of staff with a gun.

They then left the shop with a considerable amount of money. The men are believed to have been in the area for some time before the attack. It is possible the robbery may be linked to a similar incident at Thomas Cook in Sandwich, Kent, earlier this week.

A Thomas Cook spokesperson said: “Thankfully our staff and customers at the Hythe store are safe and well, albeit understandably distressed after their experience, and therefore our priority remains ensuring they have all the necessary support and counselling they require.

“We are working very closely with the police and liaising with other travel retailers to provide as much detail as possible to aid the police investigation.

“Thankfully incidents like this are still relatively uncommon, but naturally we are having to proceed on the basis that these two incidents were linked.

“We will be stepping up security in our stores while providing additional support to our staff to ensure they remain vigilant, are fully aware of the security procedures and know how to notify police should they see anything suspicious, in or out of work.”

Kent Police have asked anyone with any information to contact them on 101 quoting ref 14-557.
