Second cruise hit by vomiting bug

Health onboard cruise ships remains in the spotlight today with media outlets reporting two “outbreaks” of the winter vomiting bug on Caribbean cruises over Christmas.

Following the confirmation last week that passengers onboard Queen Mary 2 had suffered symptoms consistent with a norovirus outbreak, reports have highlighted that a Princess Cruises’ Caribbean itinerary was also hit.

According to reports filed with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Emerald Princess was hit during a Caribbean cruise which returned to the US on December 27.

Passengers and crew onboard Queen Mary 2 suffered symptoms on a Christmas cruise which finishes on January 3.

Neither case has been confirmed as being caused by norovirus, though the symptoms are consistent in both.
