GBTA probes membership after buyout


THE GUILD of Business Travel Agents is considering whether Amersham Travel can remain a member of the group following its acquisition by travelstore.com.



The executive is also discussing whether Amersham managing director David Giles, who is currently GBTAdeputy chairman, can still become chairman next year.



Giles said:”My intention is that I can still be chairman. I don’t feel that the move towards on-line services will harm GBTAmembers.



“The guild is long-standing. There are a lot of old traditional views but I believe if I become chairman next year I will be taking it into the 21st century.”



A spokesman for theGBTAsaid it is the association’s policy to review membership every time a member is acquired by another company.



n Meanwhile, the GBTAhas taken on FleetStreet Travel as a new member.
