G Adventures launches global appeal for Philippines

A global appeal for $25,000 of aid to support long-term recovery of typhoon-hit communities in the Philippines has been launched by G Adventures, with donations being matched by the company dollar-for-dollar.

The operator and its non-profit foundation Planeterra are partnering with Architecture for Humanity to raise funds to support the long-term reconstruction of the devastated regions.

Donations will help rebuild communities, schools and clinics, and mobilise teams on the ground to help those in affected areas build back better and stronger.

G Adventures is covering all administration costs so 100% of all donations can directly benefit the initiative. The operator pledged to match donations dollar-for-dollar to a maximum of $5,000 per donation.

Company founder Bruce Poon Tip said: “Many relief agencies worldwide are currently working to provide the food, shelter and medicine to those impacted by Haiyan.

“Once the immediate needs are addressed, there will still be much left to do. It will take months, even years to rebuild the Philippines.”

He added: “Our world is an amazing place to explore and has given us so much. When part of it is in trouble, it is our duty to step in and return the favour.

“We know our travellers and partners care. As with our past relief efforts in Haiti, East Africa and Peru which they supported and championed, they want to contribute and make a lasting, tangible difference.”
