Former Virgin Atlantic chief executive Steve Ridgway has joined Baltic Sea ferry company Scandlines as chairman.
The business, backed by private equity firm 3i, is looking to consolidate its market-leading position on routes in the region.
Scandlines operates nine ferries between Germany, Denmark and Sweden and carries more than 11 million passengers a year.
Peter Wirtz, 3i partner and managing director Germany, said: “We are delighted to have found Steve to join the board of Scandlines. His extensive experience and insight in building a big brand in the leisure travel and retail sector will be invaluable as we continue to grow Scandlines.”
Chief executive Søren Poulsgaard added: “His knowledge and experience will be invaluable as we pursue our growth strategy, continually enhance our customer experience and modernise our fleet.”
Ridgway said: “I am excited by the company’s growth prospects, as evidenced by the modernisation and expansion of its fleet and the continued focus on improving the customer experience. I look forward to working with Søren and the management team to continue Scandlines’ growth plan.”
