Norwegian sees January carryings rise by almost a quarter

Carryings by Scandinavian budget airline Norwegian rose by almost a quarter in January to more than 1.5 million.

The airline flew 24% more passengers in the month than in January 2013 with an increased load factor of 74.8% despite capacity growth.

Chief executive Bjørn Kjos said: “I’m very pleased that in a low season month like January we have increased the load factor, even with major capacity growth.

“The fact that 1.5 million passengers chose to fly with us prove that low fares and new, comfortable aircraft are important.“

Norwegian operated 99.6% of its scheduled flights in January, with 78.3% departing on time in the face of “challenging” weather conditions in Scandinavia.

Norwegian took delivery of two new Boeing 737-800s in January out of a total of 15 to be delivered in 2014 in addition to four 787 Dreamliners.
