Taiwan improves free Wi-Fi initiative for tourists

Travellers to Taiwan are being encouraged by the Taiwan Tourism Bureau register in advance for free Wi-Fi access across the country.

Visitors previously had to queue at the airport on arrival to receive an iTaiwan username and password, but international tourists are now being encouraged to apply online before their arrival.

Taiwan became the first destination in the world to offer free wireless internet access to tourists last year.

There are more than 5,100 hotspots in major tourist spots and transportation hubs across the country.

The iTaiwan scheme is open to international tourists visiting the country and the free Wi-Fi is valid for up to 30 days, with the possibility of extending to 90 days thereafter.

Visitors can register at itaiwan.taiwan.net.tw
