Lunn Poly sales hit 3.2m

LUNNPoly sold 3.2m overseas package holidays out of a total market of 13.7m in 1998, with bookings up 7% on the previous year.

The multiple’s latest figures in its quarterly Market Update report revealed that total overseas business out of the UK is expected to reach 14m in 1999. However, the company has not forecast what its own share of the market might be.

The report says that Spain will remain the number one holiday destination for Britons in 1999 – four out of 10 bookings made up to the end of May were for the Spanish mainland, Canary or Balearic Islands.

Lunn Poly staff are now making three times the number of ocean cruise bookings they were in 1992. Cruise prices continue to fall, with 50% costing under £1,000 in 1998, compared with 25% in 1994.
