Anantara Hotels, Resorts & Spas’ has opened its third resort in China.
The 150-room Anantara Emei Resort & Spa is the first luxury international hotel in this corner of southwest China and sits at the foot of Emei Mountain in Sichuan Province.
Mount Emei (lofty) is popular with pilgrims, nature and culture buffs due to its ancient trees, waterfalls, streams and springs and is the highest of China’s four Sacred Buddhist Mountains.
Of the 150 rooms 40 are pavilions and 20 are villas with Jacuzzis or swimming pools.
Restaurants include Jinyi serving regional recipes from Sichuan and Guangdong; Cultivar, a stylish all day dining restaurant offering Chinese and European cuisines; the lobby lounge, Xueji, for seasonal refreshments and light bites which opens onto a terrace with a scenic view; and Yunshang Wine Cellar serving wine, gourmet snacks, spirits and cigars, as well as special degustation menus.
The pool is home to a swim-up bar and cosy salas.
For guests seeking personalised and differentiated dining experiences, Anantara offers Dining by Design.
For cooking enthusiasts or those interested in taking home Sichuan recipes, Anantara’s cooking classes Spice Spoons involve exploring local food markets before cooking with help from a chef.
Facilities include a tropical outdoor pool and Jacuzzi, a fitness centre, a spa, table tennis and outdoor tennis courts, along with yoga and Tai Chi classes.
There is also a children’s pool, a children’s club and games room and the gardens are able to host weddings.
There is a cable car to the summit of Mount Emei for those who don’t fancy the hike and nearby is the world’s highest golden Buddha statue.
The area also has a number of hot springs, Exiu Lake is two kilometres away and giant pandas can be found living in their natural habitat in the Chengdu Plain.
This is the third Anantara in China to open with four more in the pipeline.
