EasyJet predicts record carryings for Good Friday

EasyJet is preparing for the busiest day in its history tomorrow (Good Friday) when more than 1,400 flights will be operated for the first time.

More than 200,000 passengers are expected to be carried at the start of the Easter break.

The schedule will see an easyJet aircraft take off or land on average every 1 minute throughout the day.

The airline said its timetable will enable it to safely deliver “industry leading” on time performance on the busiest day of the year so far.

The most popular destinations are London, Geneva, Milan and Berlin.

Around 120,000 passengers will travel on flights to and from the UK on this day.

The most popular destination for Britons heading for Easter sun are Malaga, Alicante and Majorca.

The airline’s busiest day to date saw 1,367 scheduled flights take off and land on September 12 last year.

Group commercial director Catherine Lynn said: “Friday 18 April will be the busiest day in easyJet’s history, with 1,406 flights scheduled for the first time.

“The combination of Easter and the start of our peak summer flying programme has seen strong demand across the network and we expect to carry over 200,000 passengers on Good Friday.”

More than 70,000 passengers are expected to use Bristol airport over the Easter weekend. Passenger traffic has increased with the addition of new services to Bologna and Shannon as well as a recently announced codeshare between BMI Regional and Lufthansa to Frankfurt and Milan.

The Easter getaway is expected to see some 370,000 passengers expected to fly from Heathrow, 200,000 from Gatwick and 120,000 from Stansted.

A further 110,000 will leave from Manchester airport and 100,000 from Scottish airports.

A survey by Visit England suggested that 3.4 million Britons were planning to go away within the UK over Easter, with 1.6 million heading abroad.
