East Midlands flights suspended after cargo aircraft problem

Flights to and from East Midlands airport were suspended this morning after problems with a cargo aircraft during landing.

The aircraft had “an issue on landing” at about 3am.

Two people were on board but no-one was injured. The airport said the runway was closed until further notice.

Passengers were advised to consult their airlines for further information.

An airport spokesman said: “Runway operations are currently suspended until further notice. We are working hard to re-open the airfield quickly.”

He said the “first wave of flights”, between 7am and 9am were affected.

Investigators from the Air Accidents Investigation Branch were reported to be on site.

Ryanair had to cancel eight departures from East Midlands and seven inbound flights this morning.
