Florida gets UK boost

THE number of British visitors to Florida last year rose 6.2% to over 1.4m, representing nearly 25% of all overseas visitors to the Sunshine State.

The Orlando/Kissimmee-St Cloud area attracted the largest number, at over 1.1m, followed by St Petersburg and Clearwater with 460,000, and Miami with 300,000.

Fort Lauderdale drew 170,000 UK visitors, while the Lee Island Coast, which includes Fort Myers and Sanibel Island, saw 66,000 Britons.

Visit Florida marketing director Colin Brodie said: “The figures confirm our belief that Florida is still the number-one long-haul destination for British visitors.”
