Aer Lingus to bring in TNT Express finance chief

Aer Lingus finance chief Andrew Macfarlane is to be replaced by the chief financial officer of delivery firm TNT Express.

Bernard Bot joins the Irish carrier as chief financial officer on September 1 when Macfarlane steps down after five years.

“In the intervening period Mr Macfarlane will facilitate a detailed transition process to Mr Bot as new CFO,” the airline said.

Aer Lingus chairman Colm Barrington said: “Bernard brings significant experience in the transport and logistics sector to Aer Lingus and we are pleased to announce his appointment as our new CFO.

“I would also like to sincerely thank Andrew Macfarlane for the very valuable contribution he has made to Aer Lingus since he originally joined us in December 2009.

“He has been a key member of the management team that, over the last five years, has transformed Aer Lingus into a strong, profitable airline with a resilient business model and an improved cost base.”

Meanwhile, Federico Balzola, southern Europe regional HR director at health, home and hygiene company Reckitt Benckiser, is joining Aer Lingus in September as chief people and change officer.

The carrier’s chief executive Christoph Mueller said: “I am confident that Federico will bring his significant international experience and skills to bear in addressing the next challenges of Aer Lingus in managing our people and change agenda.

“We want to become the employer of choice, further improving the engagement of our employees and embarking on a new and constructive discussion with our social partners while maintaining our differentiation and managing our cost.”
