Gatwick gears up for ‘family friendly’ summer

Gatwick is expecting to handle more than 5.7 million passengers this summer.

The peak departure day is on Friday (July 25) when around 77,000 travellers are expected to pass through the airport.

Friday also marks the start of the busiest week of the summer for Gatwick, with around 508,000 passengers departing.

Overall, around 2.88 million passengers will fly from the airport until the end of the school holidays on September 3.

The airport has become the UK’s first to be awarded ‘family friendly’ accreditation by the Family and Childcare Trust, which recognises businesses committed to offering families the best service possible.

Chris Baldwin, family lead at the airport, said: “We encourage families travelling through Gatwick this summer to take advantage of our specially tailored facilities and services including free pushchairs, family assistance lanes, play areas and our range of family friendly restaurants.”
