Kitzbuhel


Altitude: 800m-2,000m.


Lifts: one cablecar, four gondolas, 23 chairlifts, 32 draglifts.


Type of runs: 22 blue, 26 red, eight black.


Other activities: sleigh rides, snowboarding, horseriding, skating, curling, ballooning.


Apres ski: wide selection of elegant shops, restaurants, pubs, bars and nightclubs, a cinema and a casino.


Family ski: nursery area and special offers at Easter with free lift passes for children up to the age of 15.


Comment: extensive ski area, great apres-ski, and a range of activities for non-skiers are the attractions. The downside is that it is a low-altitude resort with a poor snow record.


Sample price: First Choice features the Pension Schmidinger from £279 per adult for one week’s B&B. Child reduction: 1st child 30%, second child 20%.


Mayrhofen


Altitude: 640m-2,250m.


Type of runs: 22 blue, 19 red, two black.


Lifts: Ahorn has one cable-car, a chairlift, five draglifts; Penken-Horberg has two gondolas, seven chairlifts and six draglifts; Finkenberg has a gondola, one chairlift and three draglifts.


Apres ski: two discos, one nightclub, bars pubs and restaurants, one cinema.


Other activities: snowboarding, ice skating, curling, horseriding, sleigh rides, hiking, bowling, squash, indoor swimming pool and toboganning.


Family ski: emphasis on children, those under the age of six free and reduced rates until 19.


Comment: good standard of accommodation and children’s activities. On the downside, it is a low-altitude resort with no skiing to village from mountains.


Sample price: Crystal prices from £259 per person for a week’s B&B in a chalet-style hotel or £425 for halfboard in a hotel, including flights and transfers.
