UK residents spent £12.3 billion during visits abroad between August and October, an increase of 2% compared to the same period last year.
The number of trips taken in the quarter was up by 1% year-on-year with spending up by 2%, according to latest Office for National Statistics figures.
A total of 5.4 million visits abroad were made by UK residents in October, up 6% on the same month last year.
The number of visits abroad by UK residents in the year to October was 4% higher and expenditure rose by 4%.
Visits to North America were up by by 10%, Europe by 3% and other countries rose by 4%.
Visits to friends or relatives rose by 8%, holiday visits increased by 3% and business visits rose by 3%.
Travellers from overseas spent £6.3 billion during their visits to the UK in the three months.
This was down 3% compared to the same quarter in 2013.
