Expansion of Heathrow expansion has won the backing of the bosses of the UK’s manufacturing exporters.
A survey of its members by the engineering federation EEF found that four fifths believed Heathrow should get the nod over Gatwick.
The study found that Heathrow’s frequency of flights and current breadth of destinations trumped the claims of Gatwick, the Times reported.
Many of those surveyed said aviation capacity was critical to their company and expansion was vital to winning exports.
EEF chief executive Terry Scuoler said: “Expansion at Heathrow is clearly the best option for business and the country overall.
“It soars ahead of all other options.”
