IRISH Ferries has launched a new distance-learning programme for travel agents called Motoring to Ireland.
Agents have to complete four modules over a year and fill in questionnaires for assessment. The subjects covered in the first module include how to sell ferry-inclusive holidays to Ireland for a profit and UK ferry ports and the rules that apply to taking a car to Ireland. Later modules will cover Irish Ferries’ routes in detail.
General sales manager Daragh O’Reilly said:”We have designed the module in response to our agent research. Agents’ knowledge of Ireland does not seem to be as comprehensive as countries such as Spain or France.”
Irish Ferries anticipates that 15,000 agents will complete its programme in the first year.
