Number of couples marrying abroad almost trebles

Almost three times as many UK couples have booked weddings abroad to date in 2015, compared to the same period last year, according to a survey from Love Holidays.

Independent research carried out by the online travel agent found that 104 UK residents booked weddings abroad in the first two months of 2014, compared to 302 couples in January and February of this year.

The study found the average cost of a wedding abroad to be between £6,000 and £7,000, whereas the average UK wedding cost £24,000.

Along with financial reasons, survey participants listed the beauty of the destination as the main reason for getting married abroad, followed by the weather, smaller wedding parties with fewer guests attending, and ease of planning.
