New scheme seeks to curb coach congestion

A NEW scheme has been put in place to help manage the increasing numbers of tourists arriving by coach to attractions in London’s South Bank region.

Coach drivers and operators will need to pre-book a set-up or pick-up time in one of the three designated coach bay areas: Westminster Bridge; the slip road linking to Waterloo Bridge and Upper Ground; and Belvedere Road.

Drivers will need to specify which attraction they are visiting and request a set-down time. Several streets will be banned to coaches.

The programme is being monitored and a formal review will be held after six months.

The new measures are supported by British Airways’ London Eye, London Borough of Lambeth, Shell International, South Bank Centre and South Bank Employers Group.
