US AIRWAYS started operating its second UK-US service last week with daily Gatwick-Charlotte flights. They join the carrier’s double-daily service from Gatwick to Philadelphia.
Charlotte in North Carolina, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh – which US Airways has also been given a licence to serve from London – are the carrier’s three main US hubs. Together they operate more than 1,300 daily departures.
Country manager UK and Ireland John O’Toole said all three cities are critical to its UK route expansion, as more than 70% of transatlantic traffic connects through the East Coast. He said: “We are concentrating on London and southern England markets as we do not have the regional feed into London enjoyed by BA.”
