Bomb scare shuts Bristol airport

Bristol airport was shut for six hours over the weekend following a bomb scare.

Thousands of passengers were barred from entering the airport as police were called after a suspicious package was found on a Ryanair aircraft during a routine inspection.

The package was discovered on the flight which landed from Alicante at about 11.45pm on Saturday night.

People were evacuated and 12 inbound aircraft had to be diverted to Cardiff, Birmingham and Stansted as the airport was closed from around midnight to 6am on Sunday.

Passengers then had to be transported back to Bristol. Delays were reported throughout Sunday morning after the airport reopened.
