n advanced sales boosts thailand figures



The Tourism Authority of Thailand has reported a 24% rise in UK visitors to 37,000 in January. Marketing manager Chris Lee said the rise was due to the significant number of advanced bookings to Thailand made in 1998.

n mottershead centre stage for CTO



The Caribbean Tourism Organisation is to hold its next annual conference from September 23-25 1999 at the Renaissance Jaragua Hotel in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.Airtours managing director Chris Mottershead will deliver the keynote address.



n PITTSBURGH centre gets $276m upgrade



Pittsburgh’s convention centre is to get a $267m upgrade. The 18-year-old building will feature a ballroom, twoexhibition halls, 49 meeting rooms and two lecture halls when the changes are complete in 2002. A 650-room hotel has also been incorporated into the design.
