Newcastle airport (pictured) is being targeted for growth next summer by Thomson and First Choice with new flights to Florida.
A fortnightly flight to Orlando will run in summer 2017 follows the addition of an extra Cancun service for this year.
The move follows the Tui UK & Ireland operators announcing long-haul flights to Florida and Mexico from Bristol next year.
The new routes go on sale today (Thursday) in line with the introduction of summer 2017 holidays.
Customers travelling on the Newcastle route to Florida will have access popular hotels, including the Disney Caribbean Beach Resort and Wyndham Orlando Resort.
Thomson and First Choice aviation planning director, Karen Switzer, said: “Adding more capacity from Newcastle with the introduction of an additional fortnightly flight to Florida demonstrates our commitment to Newcastle airport and the local area.
“Expanding access to our portfolio of destinations and hotels is a key part of our overall strategy and will enhance the holiday experience for our customers.”
Airport business development director, John Irving, said: “We welcome the addition of this extra fortnightly flight from Newcastle making it even easier and convenient to fly around 11,000 holidaymakers from Newcastle to Florida next summer.
“This additional flight follows on the heels of this summer’s extra Cancun flight which will see a similar number of holiday-makers jet away from Newcastle to the Caribbean with Thomson and First Choice.
“Given this strong demand, we hope to see more flights to more destinations in the Caribbean over the next few years.”
