Liberty city shines a light

Philadelphia’s historical significance is playing a major role in the build-up to its own millennium celebrations.

Beginning this month is a Lights of Liberty multi-media sound and light show performed at the city’s Independence National Historical Park each evening.

The 1hr show is in five seamless acts throughout the park and visitors walk around wearing 3D-sound headsets and watch projections about the American Revolution cast on the area’s historic buildings.

It begins at Franklin Court, the site of Benjamin Franklin’s home in 1763, and concludes with the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence, at Independence Hall.

Also planned are a new Liberty Bell Complex, Constitution Centre and a permanent exhibition of the founding documents in the west wing of Independence Hall.
