A lorry which ploughed through a crowd celebrating Bastille Day in Nice, France has killed at least 84 people.
The driver mowed down revellers at a fireworks display along the Promenade des Anglais at about 11pm local time last night.
Children are among the dead after the attack which President Hollande said was of “an undeniable terrorist nature”.
The driver careered through the crowd for 2km before being shot dead by police.
50 people were injured, at least 18 of them critically, with hospitals in the area appealing for blood, Sky News reports.
Hollande has extended the state of emergency which was in place since November’s Paris attacks, by three months.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office said it is in contact with the local authorities and seeking more information.
It is advising British nationals to follow the instructions of the French authorities who advising people to stay indoors at this time.
