IAG capacity growth outstrips passenger increase

Capacity growth outstripped increased passenger carryings at British Airways owner International Airlines Group in August.

Traffic was up by 7.9% as capacity rose by 9% year-on-year across the group which also includes Spanish carriers Iberia and Vueling and Aer Lingus, acquired in August 2015.

Group premium traffic last month increased by 3.4%.

IAG airlines carried a total of 10.5 million passengers in August, up 9.9% on the same month last year.

The rolling annual total of carryings rose by almost 19% to 67.8 million.

The regions showing the greatest growth were Europe and North America but Africa, Middle East and south Asia saw a fall of 3.6% to 534,000.
