Fare war hots up as airlines match BA’s cut-price deals


AIRLINES are engaged in a summer transatlantic fare war following British Airways’ decision to offer two tickets for the price of one (Travel Weekly May 10).



Virgin Atlantic has matched BA’s offer for passengers booking Upper-Class seats until July 31. Two subsequent tickets will be half price. United Airlines has joined the fight by offering passengers paying full price for first and business class until August 3l an extra 50,000 miles. These can be redeemed for a free return economy ticket.



Virgin’s partner Continental Airlines is offering customers the chance to take a companion to the US for £99 return if they pay full fare for a BusinessFirst seat. The offer is valid until September 6.



Delta Air Lines sales manager UK Paul Maine said his airline would match the Continental Airlines offer.
