MORE than 1,000 Aer Lingus jobs at Heathrow are threatened by the airline’s decision to contract out airport services.
The carrier is in talks with three ground handlers, including Gatwick Handling, to outsource check-in, baggage handling and engineering jobs.
An Aer Lingus spokesman said a decision would be made this summer, but the airline was committed to retaining jobs.
He added the move had been forced on the carrier since BAA opened Heathrow to more ground handlers, leading to a drop in business for the carrier.
Last month, Lufthansa switched its ground handling from Aer Lingus to BritishMidland.
