Senior Thomas Cook executive Peter Grandell has joined the board of Travelife, the sustainability certification scheme run by Abta.
Grandell is director of operations for Thomas Cook hotels and resorts, including the expanding brands Sunwing, SunConnect, Sunprime, Smartline and Sentido.
He is based in Stockholm and has held the position for the past three years.
Travelife managing director Nikki White, who is head of destinations and sustainability at Abta, said: “We’re extremely pleased to welcome Peter to our board of directors.
“His wealth of industry experience and proven commitment to sustainable tourism will add a new dimension to the Travelife board.”
A Travelife statement said Grandell’s appointment “highlights Thomas Cook’s strong commitment to Travelife and the growing importance of Travelife certification globally”.
Grandell said: “Travelife is the leading sustainable certification scheme, and a key tool for businesses implementing sustainability initiatives in hotels and accommodation globally, creating a force for change.
“As Thomas Cook looks at how we can re-focus our sustainability strategy in 2017, I’m delighted to be invited to join the board and look forward to using this opportunity to re-energise Thomas Cook’s engagement with this vital scheme.”
