Magic Travel Group MD blames changes for decision to quit

MAGIC Travel Group managing director Joanna Edmunds has blamed an impending change in her role for her decision to quit the operator.

Edmunds will be leaving the group next week following a shake-up of Thomson’s specialist operators which will see the integration of back-office functions.

A three-month review of the businesses, spearheaded by specialist division managing director Andy Perrin, is currently being carried out.

Edmunds, formerly with Thomson’s International division, insists she is leaving on good terms but admitted her job would have changed.

She added that there was no question of her being pushed out. “I am leaving of my own accord,” said Edmunds. “It’s difficult to say what tangible effect the changes would have had but I felt the control would be different once the support functions are centralised.

“It is the right thing for Thomson to do but from a personal viewpoint it did not suit me.

“The job would have been different from the one I accepted when I joined Magic.

“It was not what I wanted at this stage of my career.”

Sources said Edmunds’ role – as with the other MDs in the group – would have been diluted as the businesses are more closely aligned.
