Thomas Cook reshuffles group flight operations

THOMAS Cook is moving its Glasgow-based flight consolidator Airsavers to new offices in the city in June.

The move to the former Carlson headquarters in Clydebank from Trongate secures 70 jobs.

Thomas Cook was originally intending to close the Clydebank office at the end of the year.

Airsavers was previously part of the Carlson Group before its Thomas Cook merger.

Thomas Cook is continuing to develop its own Flightsavers and Flights Direct operations at its Peterborough headquarters.

The operator has also confirmed all Carlson shop fronts have been rebranded, with the closure of 10 out of 800 outlets.

The branches were in Pontefract, Waterfield, Burgess Hill, Newport, Newcastle, Burnley, Burton, Chelmsford, Wigan and Canterbury. Affected staff are being offered redeployment.

Meanwhile, Thomas Cook airline Flying Colours has moved into larger offices at Commonwealth House, Manchester Airport.

The move gives the airline more room for finance, systems and crew departments as it integrates with Caledonian Airways. Previous accommodation next to Manchester’s Terminal Two will continue to be used for operations.

Flying Colours Airlines managing director Terry Soult said the decision to base Thomas Cook’s UK airline operation at Manchester did not impact on Caledonian House, Gatwick.

“As far as the future integration of Flying Colours and Caledonian is concerned, we are keeping an open mind on locations. Caledonian House in Gatwick remains strategically important to us.”

The move coincides with a change of airline departures from T2 to T1, where a dedicated Flying Colours check-in has also opened.
