The coast: 200 miles of Atlantic coastline, including Myrtle Beach, Grand Strand, the Low Country and Resort Islands region.


Congaree Swamp National Park: near Columbia, the area offers 18 miles of hiking trails through diverse flora and fauna.


Cape Romaine National Wildlife Refuge: 60,000 acres of salt marshes and barrier islands, near Charleston, and home to dolphins, egrets, pelicans and herons.


Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway: Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway: route linking the mountains with the coast and an area of outstanding natural beauty.


Recreation: Lake Murray near Columbia offers excellent fishing, as well as Lake Jocassee along the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Nearer Charleston, the joining of the Santee and Cooper rivers provides more than 171,000 acres of water ideal for sport fishing and boating.
