Questions and Answers: Israel

We asked Peltours what are the most frequently asked questions by clients when booking a holiday to Israel.

How long is the flight to Israel?

Approximately 4 hrs to Tel Aviv and 4hrs 30mins to Eilat. Add an extra 30mins from Manchester.

Is it safe to travel to Israel?

It is as safe as anywhere else in the world. We can’t recall a British tourist being injured by an act of terrorism or war in Israel.

Do Israelis speak English?

Yes. English is the second language, after Hebrew. Most people are fluent in English, particularly in cities and tourist areas.

Is driving in Israel easy and are the roads simple to use?

As Israel is actually similar in size to Wales, car hire is very popular. Driving is on the right, the road system is very good and signs are in Hebrew and English. Mobile phones are available to hire with cars in case assistance is needed.

Is it expensive in Israel?

The cost of living in Israel is a little higher than in London. Of course, if you eat and drink in the main tourist areas it is more expensive than a few minutes away. A three-course meal with wine costs £20; glass of beer £2.

What type of food does Israel offer?

There is a wide variety of food, including typical Middle Eastern, European, Italian and Thai dishes. Humous (chick pea) and falafel are staple snack foods and very cheap. Hotels are kosher and will not serve pork or shellfish, nor will they serve meat and dairy products together.

What watersports are available in Israel?

Although Tel Aviv and other Mediterranean coastal areas in Israel offer a host of watersports, Eilat certainly offers the best. You can waterski, jetski, parasail, windsurf, snorkel and scuba-dive (you can gain PADI qualifications while you’re there).
