BUSINESS travellers are rapidly embracing the use of self-booking technology, according to the latest survey by American Express.

The agency surveyed over 270 corporate travellers who attended last month’s Business Travel ’99 exhibition at the Business Design Centre in Islington, London.

At this year’s event, 83% said they were likely to make their own business travel arrangements in the next year.

This compares to only 69%of 130 business travellers who completed the same questionnaire at the exhibition in 1998.

Amex head of UK corporate travel Iain Robinson said:”The pressures facing travelling executives are greater than ever before.

“The globalisation of the world economy is creating increased demand for corporate travel, but at the same time economic uncertainty is forcing companies to become more cost conscious.

“Our survey shows corporate travellers are turning to new technologies to help them manage their time and money more effectively.”

The survey also found that 98%of business travellers said mobile working was important for their company’s productivity, compared to 69% at last year’s exhibition.
