The most popular of the seminars laid on for BTTF exhibitors and visitors is expected to be the session on making the most from the millennium.
Called ‘2000 – A Group Odyssey’ the session will look at how the domestic industry can maximise the benefits from the celebrations to mark the arrival of the new century.
In particular, details will be given of the many tourism projects that are being developed with Millennium Commission funding. Included are the Millennium Dome in Greenwich, Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh and the new Bath Spa, as well as a host of lesser-known attractions.
The seminar is being organised in association with the British Tourist Authority and the English Tourist Board.
The Tourism Society’s seminar focuses on the implications of the euro for the domestic industry. Even though Britain is not yet ready to make the switch, many businesses are dealing with European customers who are already working in euros alongside their national currencies. ‘The Euro – What You Have To Do For Your Business’ is expected to be a particularly lively session. “It will help clarify in delegates’ own minds what the impact of the euro may be,” said The Tourism Society spokesman Adrian Clark.
Travel technology company Genesys will be attempting to demistify the World Wide Web for BTTF visitors and in its session ‘Winning Ways on the Web’ will be looking at how companies can sell themselves on the Internet. Included in the session will be tips on good Web site design and making search engines work to your advantage to attract the maximum traffic.
The England for Excellence in Business seminar, organised by the ETB, will tackle a range of topical issues including best practice, transport, Information Technology and harmonised accommodation standards. This year, there is an environmental theme to the Confederation of Passenger Transport’s seminar. Called ‘Profitability Through Going Green’ it looks at how coach operators can turn greener practices into profit.
BTTF event manager Andy Watts said the aim of the seminars was to give down-to-earth advice. “With so much investment in the industry in the run-up to the millennium and with so many new developments within the global tourism industry, we wanted seminars to offer practical help and advice to delegates.”
Admission to the seminars is free. Pre-booking is advisable. Call Sarah McGeary on 0181-910 7736 for tickets.
