RYANAIR is levying an extra charge on passengers who have to pick up tickets at the airport.
The £2 supplement comes in on Monday and will be included in the cost of the ticket.
Commercial director Tim Jeans said the charge was being introduced to encourage people to have tickets with them, rather than rely on collecting them from the airport.
“We want to lessen the amount of ticket-on-departure activity as it creates lots of work for our airport staff,” said Jeans.
He claimed the move would encourage people to book through agents, which hold ticket stocks, rather than through Ryanair Direct and risk not having tickets before going to the airport.
He added passengers who booked over the telephone within seven days of departure faced paying the charge.
The ticket-on-departure charge is non-commissionable to agents, said Jeans.
Ryanair will reveal new routes and fleet expansion plans next month, prior to receiving its first Boeing 737-800 on March 12 in a 25-strong aircraft order.
The plans will include Ryanair’s launch into the low-cost German market.
