HOTELIERS are increasing their rates to operators by up to 150% for millennium ski holidays, according to Crystal Holidays.
The move has led to ski holidays over the millenium almost doubling in price. A nine-day ski trip to the Strasshofer Hotel in Kitzbuhel, Austria is ú1,249 over the period compared with ú635 for seven days over New Year 1998.
The ski market leader, launching its 1999/2000 preview brochure, said while the exclusive properties will draw in customers no matter what the price, others risk pricing themselves out of the market.
Crystal managing director Andy Perrin said: “Pricing for the millennium is so unpredictable.
“Those at risk of losing out are hoteliers in resorts who increase their rates hugely while their neighbours are being cautious and are just looking at filling their hotels.”
Perrin said 2,000 out of the 11,500 millennium holidays on offer have already been booked.
“We have increased capacity next season by about 8%,” he added. “The impetus created by the millennium should ensure a decent 1999/2000 season.”
Millennium prices start from ú529 for seven nights with half-board accommodation in Bulgaria.
Holidays in 11 countries are featured in the preview brochure.
