n new hotel openings for las vegas



Major hotel openings operating their first full year in 2000 include the424-room Four Seasons, the 3,300-room Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, the 3,036-suite Venetian Resort and the Resort at Summerlin with another 540 rooms.



n elvis makes star appearance on the strip



A new Elvis Presley museum has opened west of The Strip featuring $3m worth of Elvis memorabilia. The 8,200sq ft museum, called Elvis-A-Rama, features such things as the singer’s purple Cadillac – his first touring limousine – and his various outfits, uniforms and gold lame suits. An Elvis impersonator entertains daily on a stage in the museum’s ’50s-style café.



n virgin to start new Las vegas flights



Virgin starts twice-daily flights to Las Vegas from Gatwick on June 8. In conjunction with the new service, sister tour operator Virgin Territory plans to introduce a range ofself-drive western itineraries later in the year.



n southwest airlines expands flight options



Low-cost US carrier Southwest Airlines has started services to Las Vegas from New Orleans; Indianapolis in Indiana; Columbus, Ohio; and Omaha, Nebraska.



n amtrak to link las vegas and los angeles



A new high-speed Amtrak train service is on schedule to link Las Vegas with Los Angeles in the autumn. It is hoped it will ease the traffic congestion on the route that connects the two cities.



n visitors authority to redesign web site



The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority is redesigning its Web site to make it more user friendly. It can be accessed at www.lasvegas24hours.com.



n paris-las vegas casino opens new show



The Paris-Las Vegas Casino Resort is featuring a new show called Notre Dame de Paris, a 21st-century pop/rock adaptation of Victor Hugo’s classic French romance story of the same name. Tickets cost $69.50.
