Poor demand prompts Cresta to axe resorts

CRESTA has dropped six destinations from its programme of short breaks from East Midlands airport because of poor sales.

Faro, Palma, Malaga, Jersey, Guernsey and Edinburgh have all been ditched, leaving 12 featured cities.

Marketing manager Jane Williams said the destinations were dropped because they were already well served by the operator’s main short-breaks programme and its dedicated Spain and Portugal brochure.

“We wanted to focus on those cities which were performing well out of East Midlands airport,” she said.

Despite the move, capacity has been increased by 50%, with hotels added in most cities. Williams declined to reveal passenger numbers.

Free nights are available at selected properties, while three days’ free parking at the airport is offered.

Upgrades to Diamond Euroclass to Paris, Amsterdam and Nice are available for an extra ú59.

Other offers include free flights for children for holidays to Disneyland Paris taken before March 25. “These offers are exclusive to the East Midlands programme,” said Williams.

Prices lead in at ú155 per person for two nights in Paris staying at the one-star superior Comfort Inn Sacre-Coeur.

Destinations now featured in the programme are Amsterdam, Bruges, Brussels, Dublin, Florence, Monte Carlo, Nice, Paris, Reykjavik, Rome, Venice and Disneyland Paris.
